Bow Elementary School's
Standards-based Report Cards
The grade level report cards at Bow Elementary School are standards-based and are completed three times per year at the end of each trimester. Student progress is measured throughout the year relative to end-of-grade level expectations (standards). This differs from a more traditional report card that reports progress relative to each quarter of the year. Most academic standards in our report cards are evaluated on a number scale of 1 to 4. These numbers do not translate to letter grades. Rather, the numbers represent the level of competence and independence a student has achieved on a given standard. In a standards-based report card it is common to see several scores of 1 or 2 in the first trimester and for scores to improve as students’ skills and understandings, relative to end-of-year standards, improve over the course of the year.
If you have questions about your child’s report card, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher and/or the administration. We appreciate your support as we work together to help all students reach high standards.
