BMS First Lego League

This was the second year that Bow Memorial sponsored two teams in the First LEGO League, and what a great opportunity it was for everyone involved!

Bishop Brady Qualifying Tournament: 11/12/2011

What a day! Both teams did a fantastic job in all the events. Team #3040 “Banana Bonanza” was able to bring home a 1st place trophy in the Core Values challenge for which they had to showcase their teamwork skills & on-the-spot creativity.  They also secured a 3rd place finish in the robotics competition, allowing them to move on to the next tournament.

Team #2917 “Pineapple Power” received honorable mention on the Robot Design Challenge. In this tournament the top 7 teams move on to the next tournament. They held onto 7th place the entire day until in the last match of the day when they were bumped out of the tournament by 1 point.

State Tournament at Manchester Central High School:  WOW….what an experience! Team #3040 "Bow Banana Bonanza" did a fantastic job in all the events. They competed against 49 other teams from all around the state. The teams we competed against were very seasoned. We had hoped to place a little higher in the standings, but the chips to do so did not fall that way. However, the entire experience was worth it.  At the end of the day, trhe "Banana’s" placed 40th overall.

I am extremely proud of the team for all the hard work they did, the way they conducted themselves, and how they represented our school. This is the second year Bow has been involved with the First LEGO League, and this was the first time we qualified to advance to the state competition. I am very thankful to everyone who helped and supported the teams.

BMS Student Council

November brought bountiful giving as council members volunteered to shop for two Bow Welfare Thanksgiving Baskets sponsored by the BEA and the Student Council. Also in November, several council members volunteered on Friday, November 18 to help set up for the Bow PTO Craft Fair at BHS.

Not skipping a beat, right after returning from Thanksgiving break, Student Council started the Annual BMS Toy and Food Drives.  These drives ran from November 29 through December 16. As a school community, BMS donated 30 boxes of food to The Capital Region Food Program and 16 boxes of toys for the Friends of Forgotten Children Program.  Together we make a big difference!

Seventh and eighth graders danced the night away on Friday, December 2 at the BMS Snowflake Dance and then again on Friday, January 6 at the French Club dance! Thank you to all of our parent chaperone volunteers, as without them dances would not be possible!

The January chill has been warmed up with a new fundraiser at BMS. Starting on January 3 and running through the 31st, Student Council will collect donations during lunches for the Best Buddies Loose Change Campaign.  The Best Buddies Program is a non-profit organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates friendships, employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. New Hampshire does not have a Best Buddies chapter as of yet, and we are doing our part to help make that happen! Students and staff are donating during lunches, and the homeroom that raises the most money will get a pizza party from Best Buddies!

Coming in February is Spirit Week and the Annual Talent Show. Talent Show try-outs took place before and/or after school on January 9, 11, 13, and 17. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting Spirit Week and Talent Show this year!

Coming in March is the Annual BMS Blood Drive. The Blood Drive will be in the BMS café on Tuesday, March 6 from 3:15-8:00 p.m. We hope we see you there!
