Notes from the School Nurse
Thank you to all the parents who responded and updated their children’s physical exams and immunization records. The computer files are almost complete. If you received a notice regarding missing immunizations and haven’t updated the school’s record, please contact your doctor immediately to get an updated immunization copy for your child’s school health file. If you are unsure if your child’s immunizations are up to date, you can check the Health Portal or call me at 225-3212, ext. 406 or e-mail me.
Any 8th grade students who would like to play sports at Bow High School next year will need to have a physical exam dated after February 1, 2012. Forms are available in the Bow Memorial office for that purpose. If you have questions about the Bow High School sports requirements, please contact Leslie Bean, RN at 228-2210 ext. 334. A physical exam and clearance to participate in Sargent Camp activities this spring are required within 2 years of attendance. If you believe I have a current exam on file, you can call or e-mail me and we can copy and send it to the Camp.
We are seeing some gastrointestinal viruses, lots of colds, and it is flu season. We appreciate people staying home when they are sick, but recognize the decision isn’t always easy. Here is a reminder of some basic guidelines for school attendance:
- Does he/she feel well enough to make it?
- Is he/she able to eat solid food and drink fluids without vomiting or severe pain?
- Is he/she fever-free for 24 hours?
- Does he/she have a manageable cough and use cough etiquette—cough into the elbow, shirt sleeve, or a tissue, and wash hands or use hand sanitizer after?
- Has he/she been on antibiotic medication for at least 24 hours?
