Counting: count everything, everywhere; for example, the number of dishes at the dinner table, stuffed animals, buttons on their shirt, etc. If the items are in a horizontal row prompt them to count from left to right, if the items are in a circle prompt them to count them clockwise, and if they are in a vertical column count them top to bottom. As they are more familiar with counting you can gradually increase the number of items they are counting and then you can have a "counting day" where they start by counting one thing then they find two of something and count them and so on.
Count by 10's to 100 and count by 5's to 100. These are fun to do with pennies, nickels and dimes.
Sorting: cleaning up toys, money (pennies, nickels, dimes), sort all by color, size, shape or different items.
Patterns: a good second activity after sorting, start with a 2 item pattern (AB), then you can get gradually more difficult patterns (ABC; AABB; AAB; ABB).
Adding: practice adding by counting and make it visual, this skill will be addressed in the second half of the year.
