READING

Our class is very busy reading a variety of books,  such as The Sign of the Beaver, Pathki Nana,  Buffalo Before Breakfast, and Trouble River. They are also working on some word study with Words Their Way.

SPELLING

Each student has their own individualized list of Rebecca Sitton Spelling Words.  On a daily basis, they are doing follow-up activities with their words.  On Mondays, they will be test on their words, and then a new list will be assigned to them.

MATH

The class is presently reviewing their multiplication fast facts.  A solid handle on these will help them as they further explore multiplication and division.

It is important on a nightly basis that the students review their multiplication facts, as they will continue to take multiplication/division fast facts quizzes at least twice a week.  Each student will graph their scores, so that they can personally see how they are progressing in their mastery of their facts.  Once they have mastered their multiplication facts, they will start the process of mastering their division facts.

WRITING

Our class loves to write.  During the course of the day, a lot of writing takes place.  Whether it be individual creative writing or theme writing, the students are constantly using the writing process, utilizing their conferencing and editing skills.  This editing segment is a wonderful follow-up to our "Daily Oral Language" Program.  It allows them to use it in a real-life situation.

SCIENCE

We have recently begun our Weather Unit.  During the course of this study, each student will have the opportunity to make a weather instrument at home and use it to record data.  Kevin Scurupa, WMUR Meteorologist, visited the fourth graders here at BES to tell them about his job at the station, as well as extending their knowledge of weather.
